12th Night was a grand event - a good day - weather cooperated - no snow for Atlantia although for our friends in the East Kingdom, their weather did not cooperate and their 12th Night was not held on January 10. We had the Crown Prince and Princess attend our event instead. 4 peerages were made: 2 Laurels and 2 Pelicans; many other awards were given as well. Feast was a success - I believe. The diners all ate their fill - almost to the style of a Henrican feast - except I did not realy get to serve the 3rd course as many people were full and some had started to leave for home or their hotels. Feast was originally scheduled for 5:30 PM and it was 90 minutes late as a royal court was held later, too, as another meeting of importance for the Kingdom took place. I have no details of that meeting as I and my team were in the kitchen. It was a challenging site - because it was not a traditional kitchen - many cooks in the Society are used to having many gas burners in a kitchen as well as regular ovens. Instead, we had a more modern kitchen for a high school and their equipment was great - just different. Convection steamers are a cool piece of equipment. The school had 6 huge convection ovens - each oven could hold 4 racks of food. 90% of the food for the feast was done offsite and either reheated or combined on-site to make a tasty feast. My 3 apprentices ROCK. ![[info]](http://l-stat.livejournal.com/img/userinfo.gif) had an organizational and logistical challenge - how to plate all the dishes and get foods to the diners. This spice gal did an awesome job - she was an azure whirlwind. ![[info]](http://l-stat.livejournal.com/img/userinfo.gif) made cheese that conformed to the time peiriod for the event. She did research into the recipes from English cheesemakers and she then applied her efforts into cheese production. Making cheese for a few people athome is a challenge -- imagine making chees for 400 people and then moving from Lochmere (Maryland) to Windmasters Hill (North Carolina) prior to the event. Grace (alas not a LJ user) spearheaded makingmanchet style bread for the event. She corralled some friends to help her in this undertaking plus Grace also made leches for an Atlantian mappe - which was to be served at the end of the 2nd course. But with the later eating time and the fullness of our diners tummies, the subtlety was not presented to Their Majeties. Grace made some leches that had interesting tastes - all used period coloring ingredients - even squid ink. (I think I would like licorice instead.... but squid ink is period!!!) There were many Atlantians in the kitchen - Lady Hrosvitha von Celle, Lady Grace Whytteng, Lady Elizabeth of Hadley Hall, Mistress Allasondrea de Fano, Lady Alesia la Sabia de Murcia, Sir Ælfred of Cres, Duchess Marie-Simone de Barjavel ‘la Fildena, Lord Alexandre d’feourouvre, Lady Delphina the Mad, Lady Heloise Le Gardeur, Master Iustinos Ancyrenos Patrikios, Lady Sophia vander Werken, Lady Rebecca the Contrary, Lady Morgaine of Donegal, Melva, and Lord Vernor. My thanks to Lord Siegfried MacClure, the autocrat, for asking me to cook. My thanks, too to Konugr Jason and Drottning Gerhild, for Their event - where They could sample Northern Atlantian hospitality. Now to sleep and rest....... before going and helping an apprentice with her upcomging feast. When I get photos, I will post them..... Tags: sca Current Mood: cheerful

Since Labor Day, carthew and I have been practicing the art of perfection. With 2 Laurels working on wallpaper removal with 2 Pelicans bustling about steaming and scrubbing, peeling and scraping, the living room of the Carthew estate is slowly being de-papered. Of course, the rest of the main floor is a disaster area. Boxes of china and music books are packed; scrolls and artwork are stacked and the formal dining room is looking more like a warehouse. GMT's library of cookbooks and reference data is staked now with chairs and more boxes. The mantra is "in only a few weeks, the place will be very spiffy." As we move along on the renovation efforts, we are now looking to install recessed halogen lights in the ceiling of the library - all before the grand painting begins. When all is done, the contractors arrive (around Crusades time frame) to rip out the carpets and install solid hardwood floors. We are putting hardwood floors in the foyer, LR, DR, GMT library, stairs, and upstairs hallway. Saturday saw many folks from the splendifimo Barony of Ponte Alto descend here. The Barony has acquired a set of list fences for use at events for the fighters who show us their prowess on the fields of honor. We saw Mistress Allasondrea de Fano (who also created nifty stencils on the spot), Elisse of Ponte Alto, Baron Marcellus ballistabob, Baroness Agnes Daunce, Lady Millicent Chandler melaniesuzanne, Lord Edward, Lady Celia of Rosedale psalite, Mistress Anne of Carthew carthew, Signora Cassandra Arabella Giordani, Lady Brigid, Lord Séamus, and Helena.

Atlas 100% Extroversion, 66% Intuition, 27% Emotiveness, 28% Perceptiveness |
You totally rock. Even if you don't like Ayn Rand, you're the kind of person she wrote about. You're one of the prime movers. You can think on your feet in a way the imposter Icarus type can only dream of, you can manage people and put them to their best uses, and you don't sit on the sidelines either. You have big ideas, and you can see them all through to fruition. You have a boundless supply of creative energy, and you use it all.
On the downside, you can feel threatened by other people who have ideas, particularly if they're critical of your methods. Your immediate reaction will usually be to discredit them as mush-headed or bleeding-hearts, but they can often be right. You can also be a little egocentric. If people like you could learn to be less immediately reactionary, and listen to the reasons their critics think what they do, the world might be a better place (the ability to do this is the kind of thing that sets Warren Buffett and Bill Gates apart from the Enron execs, for example).
It's true that the world functions because of people like you, but it is important to remember that you are a foundation and catalyst, and that's all. As a manager, you need your engineers and accountants, as an engineer, you need scientists. As a politician, you need advisors. The better of the Atlas types remember this, and by doing this they're more likely to recieve gratitude for their accomplishments. Failure to recognize the contributions of your associates can be your undoing (there are people around you who are highly skilled, and they will be perfectly happy to find someone else to work with if they feel they aren't being treated fairly).
Famous People like you (if you're not evil): Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, FDR, Warren Buffett, JFK Famous People like you (if you are evil): The Enron Executives, Nixon You don't need to steer clear of any of the personality types -- you have ways of dealing with all of them. Seek out: Daedalus, The Oracle, Prometheus |
